TTT: Exercise Doesn’t Help You Lose Weight!

Hey, everybody, welcome back to another Trainer Tip Tuesday, your source on all things health and fitness. So for today’s Trainer Tip Tuesday, I want to explain how going to the gym is not specifically going to be helpful for losing weight. So the first thing that I want to help you guys understand is that when you start working out at the gym, a lot of people think you’re going to burn a lot of calories when the matter of the fact is, even the most intense lifting session might burn 300 calories and maybe say a very intense HIIT workout, maybe five to 600, which isn’t very much at all.

It’s less than a meal’s worth. Also on top of that is whenever you start working out, your body’s appetite actually increases.

Overcoming negative thoughts is a crucial step in nurturing our mental health and well-being. The incessant chatter of our inner critic, fueled by negative self-talk and persistent pessimistic thoughts, can significantly impact our lives. These negative thought patterns often lead to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. It’s essential to recognize the damaging effects of constant negative self-talk on our psyche and emotional state.

One effective way to combat negative self talk and challenge negative self-talk patterns is to replace them with positive self-talk and affirmations. A positive inner voice can help shift our thought patterns from negativity to positivity, fostering a healthier mindset. Techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness are known to address unwanted thoughts and cognitive distortions, helping us reframe our beliefs and emotional responses. Seeking professional help, such as online therapy, can provide valuable strategies to transform negative thought patterns into a more positive mindset. By confronting and countering negativity with positive self-talk, we can gradually reduce stress and limit the influence of our worst critic, our inner voice, ultimately improving our mental well-being. Working out releases the hormone called ghrelin, which stimulates your appetite. So there’s an interesting thing is that scientists have performed studies and they found that people who exercise have increased appetite and oftentimes end up eating that 300 to 600 calories that they had previously burned. You see, at the end of the day, if you’re trying to lose weight, the only thing that matters is being in a calorie deficit. In fact, you don’t even have to work out if you didn’t want to. The point is, you could do absolutely nothing and still be in a calorie deficit by just controlling what you eat.

What you guys want to know is that working out the purpose it serves is to help maintain your muscle mass and helps keep your metabolism healthy. You see, the problem with only dieting and not working out is oftentimes you’ll end up with what people call skinny fat, where these people have really skinny limbs, but they still have fat on their stomachs. This is because when you don’t lift weights or stimulate your muscle, it goes away. It’s a use it or lose it type of thing. So instead, the purpose of working out is going to be able to help you maintain the shape of your body and help give you that firm tone looks that most people are looking for when they’re trying to lose weight.

So now you guys know that’s why working out isn’t what’s going to give you weight loss. As always check out our Fenix Fitness Blog, for more on all things health & fitness.
